October 17 Community Roundtable Open House: An Informative Celebration of the Coquitlam River Watershed

On October 17th, around 90 residents of the Coquitlam River Watershed joined together at Mariner Brewing for a fun, family friendly Open House. The participants learned about the Roundtable’s history, partners, mission and successes of the past years, as well as the newly launched Invasive Species and Water Conservation Outreach Campaign.

Four Pop-up talks, at half-hour intervals, followed by interesting prize draws, filled the event with information and fun. Jill Dwyer, the Roundtable Coordinator, welcomed the attendees, while pointing out the most important facts about the CRWR. Blaire Chisholm, VP, Brook Pooni & Associates, spoke about CRWR work with local developers to identify a green building incentive program. In the third Pop-up talk, Dr. Craig Orr and Kelsey Taylor, from Kwikwetlem First Nation, spoke about CRWR partnership with Kwikwetlem First Nation and the importance of the Roundtable. Finally, Robin Whachell from Hoy-Scott Watershed Society, raised awareness about the society’s year-round Hoy Creek Hatchery operation in salmon conservation and habitat restoration.

Between the talks, attendees enjoyed some great beer and light refreshments provided by the Roundtable, while socializing and mingling together. Thanks to all of you for coming out to hear more about our Watershed!
